Welcome to Sticks And Stones, a video podcast about knitting, beading and all things handmade. Julia and Sue are so excited to talk with you about what inspires us and what we’ve been working on. Each episode will feature a DIY segment- and you never know what we’ll whip up!
Julia Swart is a Speech-Language Pathologist turned stay-at-home-mom for three wee ones. They (and my husband, Nate) are my inspiration, my support system and keep me accountable. I love to knit. I’ve been an avid knitter for more than 20 years. I love anything fibery: knitting, spinning, weaving, felting, you name it. Wool is my favorite fiber. I am also a big crafter/sewer, though that has not been my primary focus over the past few years. When my kids were smaller, I loved to knit little items for them: toys, sweaters, socks, you name it. Now that they are bigger I am beginnig to focus on creating simple designs that are timeless and work throughout childhood, published on Ravelry. You can find me at weesheepknits or on Ravelry as weesheep.
Sue Newquist is one of those creative types who is slowly realizing I’m a jack-of-all-trades, master of none. I’ve ventured through several creative endeavors in my life, including writing, early American arts, jewelry-making, sewing and most recently needle felting.
My business, Red-Tail Designs, specializes in horse hair and porcupine quill jewelry. People send me locks from their horses’ tails and I plait the hair into bracelets, earrings, key chains (and hopefully soon, necklaces and rings). I also make pieces for sale through my online store and several local stores.
We can’t wait to craft with you and see just what inspires you!
